The owners of a Catalina 380 set their course with hopes of finding a new home port where they would experience better service. "Morning Star" arrived at Noank Village Boatyard in the fall of 09, a victim of poor boatyard preventative maintenance. The neglect was irreversible – having "taken a toll" on the boat's auxiliary engine. Oil analysis paralleled the visual inspection – showing extremely high levels of chrome in the sample. Although far from conclusive, the "diagnosis" was a replacement.
The old Westerbeke 42B as it appeared upon inspection.
The exterior of the engine and its many parts was compromised from a considerable
amount of salt water leaking out of a failed vented loop, positioned directly above the engine.
New Westerbeke 42B with Balmar 100amp alternator upgrade.
